Dear members and friends,

This afternoon, in partnership with the Latino Civic Association (LCA), and the Latino Legislative Day (LLD) Delegation members (made up of 25 to 30 Subject Matter Experts (SME’s) consisting of small business owners, non-profit advocates, educators, healthcare advocates, elected officials, policymakers not only Democrats, Republicans and Independents, but who are leaders actively leading and/or working on specific issues that affect our Latino community.) came together on Monday to speak with our legislator and agency directors.

Our community includes…

Washington State Immigrants:

1 million immigrant residents

Immigrants pay $8.1 billion in taxes

$23 billion consumer spending

60,000 entrepreneurs

150,000 employees

Source: New American Economy, a coalition of companies and elected officials, mapped out the numbers displaying how many immigrants live in each state, how much they pay in taxes, and how much spending power they possess.

Monday 2/27/2016, we attended the 12^th annual Latino Legislative Day, which proved to be enlightening, energizing, and moved us to action. The estimated participation was over 1,500. The chartered buses alone had over 700 participants arriving the day of the event.

LLD served as a platform that proved to be an opportunity for the Delegation Members to engage with Washington’s State Representatives, Senators, and Agency Directors.

Three main topics of concern addressed were Immigration, Small Business, and Healthcare. Additional topics covered were Education, Government, and Labor. We will keep you posted on the outcomes of the various meetings.
